A place where everyone is welcome
At Georgia College & State University, we're dedicated to fostering a campus community where everyone feels valued, heard, and empowered. Our mission is to create a welcoming environment that values the differences of all campus students. The Office of Community Engagement & Belonging is housed in Blackbridge Hall.
Our student Organizations and programs
Black Student Alliance
The Black Student Alliance (BSA) is a registered student organization with a purpose of bringing students together. With an emphasis on African American students, the objective of BSA is to provide activities that will enhance the student's personal and social development, cultural enrichment and understanding of the African American experience.
Latino Student Association
The Latino Student Association (LSA) at Georgia College aims to bring Latino-Hispanic students, students of color, and all university students together in an organized manner to provide activities that will enhance personal development, social growth, and cultural understanding.
Pride Alliance
Pride Alliance is a student-led organization that appreciates the voices of all of its members. Pride is designed to bring students together for the greater good of the LGBTQ+ community and is a great way to make friends and create positive change in the world.
LGBTQ+ Programs
Through programming, educational opportunities, allyship training, and a variety of other support services, LGBTQ+ Programs works to create a welcoming community in and outside of the HUB where everyone feels safe, affirmed, and free to self-determine their sexual, gender and relationship identities. All identities of race, class, ability, and spirituality are welcome.
Visit The HUB or call (478) 445-8520 to learn more about educational and social opportunities on campus.
I was First, Too!
The "I Was First, Too" initiative aims to honor and assist first-generation students by showcasing the experiences and insights of GCSU administrators, faculty, and staff who understand their journey.
Why it Matters:
- Some students may feel out of place or struggle to find a sense of community on campus, leading to feelings of loneliness and isolation.
- Some experience a lack of college readiness, financial stability, and familial support, which adversely affects their ability to remain enrolled.
- Your story can help them feel welcome, capable, and connected.
Ways to Participate:
- Be featured in our “I Was First Too” poster series or social media
- Display a door badge to make your support visible
- Share a short quote or story about your first-gen journey
- Join a panel, event, or mentorship list for interested students
First-Gen Ally?
If you are not First-Gen, you’re welcome too! Join by displaying a First-Gen Ally door hanger and offering support.
